In between creating posts for my Exceedraft BSky fan account,I thought about the tension underlying my Exceedraft posts that's like the tension from the meeting of opposite ideas in Exceedraft E13 (like the performative and personal, deception and authenticity). These posts on Exceedraft E13 seem copied over from a fictional world where Exceedraft is a popular show for which its plot and ideas are often talked about among tokusatsu fans. Our reality couldn't be more different, but if it was that well-known, would there definitely be an account dedicated to hyper specific fanworks about it?
Pointing out what's obvious seems unnecessary. Pointing out what's obvious over and over again is just another way of saying it's not really obvious.
Perhaps a fan account for Exceedraft fanworks that presents what's interesting about the show as "obvious" could only exist in a world where the show's best offerings are "not obvious".
A similar logic lies behind the creation of the different kinds of fanworks posted here — GIFs and other edits, meta, memes and anything else I'd think up. I see none of these as my “obvious” specialty. If I thought of myself as distinctively "good" at creating any one kind of fanwork, I'd perhaps just focus on my specialty to share my ideas without bothering with a multimedia project.
Many of my edits accompany various fan essays elaborating on why certain images and scenes are worth revisiting multiple times. The fumbling with words when writing meta pushes me to take comfort in the relative simplicity from fiddling with editing software.
I'd like to share what's good about Exceedraft E13 and the show as a whole through getting better at creating fanworks. Starting to create from what's seen as good, according to popular opinion, might diminish or even eliminate the inspiration behind creating my fanworks. Maybe if most other tokusatsu fans agree on a) the take that Exceedraft is good and b) what exactly is good about it, I'd have less inspiration to create fanworks about it.
It's as if I have to act like David Akiba crossing over from a different world to point out what's little known in our world. Or like Okuma Ken casting aside his gun and armour to lay bare what's good and true.
